When a direct current is applied, the part acts as an electrode (anode or cathode, depending on the process). The charged paint particles are drawn out of the solution and deposited evenly onto the entire submerged surface of the part.

This electrophoretic deposition is the key advantage. Unlike spray methods that can struggle with complex geometries, the e-coat process naturally coats every surface, edge, and interior cavity uniformly, providing complete coverage and eliminating weak points. After deposition, the parts are rinsed to remove any unbound material and are then cured in an oven. The result is a continuous, high-build, and exceptionally corrosion-resistant film.
